Online Marketing Requires Different Resources

As an online marketer, you must be constantly evolving to inspire both your current and potential customers to have confidence in you, because it is that confidence that is going to lead to them making a purchase. The more people feel they can trust you, the more likely they are to give you money, but you will find that some of the methods you would use to do this with a physical storefront are not always applicable to the Internet. For instance, your online customers cannot see if you are neatly dressed or friendly, because they could be sitting in another city, if not on another continent when they find you on the Internet. So, how do you go about inspiring confidence in someone who cannot see you? Simple: give them information.

On the Internet, content is king, and this is particularly true when it comes to marketing online. Content is nothing more, nor less, than information, and the more of it you’ve got, the better you will be able to leverage it to your marketing advantage. Content is one of the pivot points of a successful online business, because so many things can hinge on it - from effective Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), to quality customer service and even Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing.

One of the best ways you can put your content to work for you and your online business is to develop a comprehensive knowledge base on your website. A knowledgebase is nothing more than a mass of information on your site that people can sift through to find out what they want and need to know. With so much information available for free on the ‘net, your content needs to be free and easy to get to, if you want to stay in the game. If you pay for PPC ads that lead back to informative articles on your website, not just sales pitches, then you are already providing value to those who click, which in turn inspires them to stick around and make a purchase. Pay Per Click ads do you no good if you’re paying for people who click, but they’re not buying once they arrive.

The more detailed and comprehensive your knowledge base is, the more effective it will be. Not only will it improve your Search Engine rankings, making it a particularly useful weapon in your Search Engine Marketing & SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) arsenal, but it will also serve to show off your expertise in your chosen niche or industry. The more information you can provide about your particular area, the more people will think of you as an authority, and authority inspires confidence.

Your knowledge base will also serve to provide better customer service with less time and effort on your part. For example, if you find that people are emailing your support address with the same questions over and over again, give them the answer in an article. If people can easily find the answers to their questions, they’ll again feel more comfortable with making a purchase. And of course that leads to more content on your site for the Search Engines to index. So it’s good for your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) tactics, and you are simultaneously saving time spent on answering emails.

Developing an extensive, quality body of content for your website can seem daunting at first, but the results are well worth the effort you put into it, and the effects will be seen for a long time to come. When you think about it, with all of the varied ways content can be put to work for you - customer service, PPC, SEO, and more - you can’t afford NOT to take advantage of it. Give them information and the sales will follow.
