With Google Pay Per Click the rank is determined by the Cost Per Click x the Quality Score of the advertisement and its landing page.
With Organic Search Engine Results, the rank is the position the website appears for a specific search term. So if your website appears on the first page of Google as the third result displayed (excluding pay per click results) your websites rank for that search term would be 3.
