Search Engine positioning is a term that is slightly optimistic; the word position almost implies that you can purchase a certain position on the search engines and expect to always be there. When talking about Search Engine positioning all you can really expect is to gain a position on page one of the main search engines for your primary keywords and phrases. Page one is a valuable location because if a search engine user finds what they are looking for on page one, then they will not look any further.

Sometimes people feel offline media positioning is a more stable option; for example, you may buy twelve months of full page advertising in a offline magazine or publication. This guarantees you high visibility, but readers may not require your products or services. Offline media is often more suited to brand awareness, and not channelling new customers to your online shopfront. The best form of offline promotion would be to purchase or arrange editorial coverage within a storey or report. The readers buy the offline product for its content, so they will read the content and if you get a chance to show off your product or services then you’re onto a win.
