Times have changed, now more than ever I hear about websites gaining radio news coverage. Last week facebook was on a BBC radio report that highlighted the growing collection of facebook users who were not happy with the new changes to the design and layout of the facebook website.
I come from an IT background and over the past ten years it has always been a surprise to hear about a technical company like Microsoft gaining news coverage. Even when they were in serious legal battles the coverage was minimal, and almost every PC in the world uses Microsoft products. Now, in 2009 because a website has changed its layout and design, it gains national news coverage!
Even The Sun newspaper has recently quoted Stephen Fry from reading his twitter profile updates and including one of them within their news story.
Its almost like the internet has started to finally infiltrate the media in a way not seen before. Instead of the media publishing to the internet, the internet community is now standing up and being taken seriously, which in turn means offline media cannot ignore the internet any more.
Times have changed, traditional media is evolving and developing into something exciting and fresh! I am looking forward to hearing more online related coverage and not constantly hearing about attention seeking Z-list celebrities.
