Articles > Twitter brings breaking news

The microblogging platform called Twitter has recently been covered in the press because it provided the media and the online population with the first pictures of the recent Hudson River plane crash. Twitter itself does not serve images, but simply allows you to update your status with a short text update. Then anyone who ‘follows’ your twitter account can see your regular short updates. Twitpic started in early 2008 is a add-on website which allows images to be included within your Twitter updates. Rory Cellan-Jones a BBC news reporter has found that he is gaining news stories from twitter to further research and publish, maybe twitter will become better than Google News for quick updated breaking news for the future.
