Articles > Web over friends and family

A recent report has highlighted eight out of ten respondents had visited a shops website first before visiting in person. According to a US survey in May 2008 that was conducted by Nielsen, more than half the people said they purchased from retailers that have websites they frequently visit.

This highlights the need for regular website updates and communications with your customer base; to regularly try and bring them back to your website. Now more than ever businesses that do not have websites will start to lose out. Consumer trends are displaying that a website is an important part of their purchasing decision.

Another point stated that 58% of respondents said they would choose the Internet to research their products instead of asking their friends and family. To me this shows that there is so much more information available online and consumers are finding it easy to learn more about the products they intend to purchase.

Today you still see many websites that do not have full details or product specifications online, this will become more important because the websites that do contain detailed information will provide a better resource and gain more sales.

Now is not the time to cut back on online investment, now is the time to embrace the increased e-commerce traffic and provide a better online resource to your consumers.
