Display advertising options

Search based advertising has been a primary source for generating targeted visitors to a website for many businesses. It has been a tool that works very well by allowing visibility on the search engines for the words and phrases people use to find related products and services.<!--more-->

Display advertising is a totally different format for gaining new visitors to your website, much like traditional press advertising it allows for images and creatives to be used. These can be static, animated or dynamic messages communicated to people who are viewing a specific web page or website.
This form of advertising has developed from simple Banner and Skyscraper adverts, to more complex and integrated dynamic solutions. Some of which include:

  • Mobile phone number capture – an advert is displayed on a website with the option to type in a mobile number to receive specific information or a special coupon code that will unlock discounts.
  • Location reading – due to the way ISPs are configured, websites can now tell the city of where you are located. In the past this used to identify a rough area of where you were located, these days it has become more accurate. Businesses that have national resellers or local operations can display local information adverts on where to purchase a product or service near to each person who views the advert.
  • Downloads – Downloadable media can now be included within advertisements. An advert could include a download link to a special trial version of software, or supported campaign collateral such as promotional Screen savers, Desktop wallpaper or a detailed product PDF.

There are many other ways that display advertising can help shorten the route to purchase and increase the relevancy of media displayed to targeted audiences. Maybe it is time for your organisation to trial new forms of display advertising.
